Down Payment Assistance (DPA) 101
There are many forms of Down Payment Assistance,
otherwise known as DPA, and different programs serve different jurisdictions.
The most well known form of DPA programs are offered by non-profit
organizations, such as the Gift of Nehemiah and Genesis program and are repaid
by the seller at closing. The bad news is that these programs were eliminated by
HUD on October 1st of 2008. The good news is that there are still other forms of
Down Payment Assistance Programs. These programs come in the form of grants.
Grants can be offered by non-profit organizations or the government, but are not
expected to be repaid and are given based on need and jurisdiction.
